We believe that European students need to know more about their fellow European citizens in order to improve the functioning of the EU in the future. We suggest the creation of a pan-European network for teachers, pupils and education officers, starting at Nursery level. This would involve correspondence between individuals in different countries and cultural exchanges between pupils, whilst teachers would spend a set amount of time teaching abroad.
This proposal materialised from the discussions in the second European Identity Politics Roundtable at the Conference on the Redefinition of the European Mission.
EUROCLIO is the European Network of History Educators. We are history teachers from across the Council of Europe. You will find more at euroclio.eu and there is a manifesto for high quality history education produced by the organisation.
