Seaford Head School are starting an Eco Group to raise students; environmental awareness and to meet learning and curriculum objectives through engaging with horticultural, recycling and wider environmental projects. One of our additional aims for this project is that it will provide opportunities for students to engage with their local community. With this objective in mind we are proposing to set up a plant and vegetable produce scheme that would allow identified in groups in the community to receive the produce grown by the students.
The scheme would meet twin objectives. Students would benefit from taking part in a dynamic small enterprise, developing their horticultural skills, improve their employability and meet learning objectives in many other areas of the curriculum. Groups in the community would benefit from receiving the produce itself but would also be brought into closer contact with the school. These connections would lead to deep and constructive community links in the coming months and years.
