I am aware that there is a local volunteer network. However, in situations like Covid a large scale volunteer network could be beneficial. It could be drawn upon in order to help with other emergencies too such as major weather or ecological events. It could include businesses as well as individuals i.e. to provide assistance with manufacturing, construction and transport as well as individual manpower
Save time by having a register of volunteers already in place rather than having to set this up when events happen
It’s likely that our recovery period will last 24 months or more, so organising this is a brilliant idea.
The statutory emergency services will find such a volunteer register invaluable, as I have learnt from them that they are very dependent upon well-organised volunteers in situations of major emergencies, such as widespread flooding.
