Rhu and Shandon Community Centre family activities for 2018

Rhu and Shandon Community Centre family activities for 2018

The local committee of volunteers have raised money to put the Centre into good condition and are working to keep it alive and flourishing for the future. We are planning a series of activities for families, centred on the Hall, over the next year. The activities planned include 1- Treasure Hunt in the village with a picnic and games, indoors or out. 2- Autumn Adventure with campfire, crafts, storytelling and singing 3- Burns Supper with music, poems, haggis and Scottish country dancing

Points

Now the Hall is looking lovely and is warm, we want to encourage its wider use and show off its facilities. Many people have helped with fundraising over the past few years, including children at Rhu School and their parents. We feel that by organising affordable activities for families we will create and maintain interest in our great Hall for future generations.

Much improved Centre after major work by Argyll and Bute Council to renew the roof and replace some windows.

Argyll and Bute TSI will hold a drop in help session on Wednesday (10th January) from 10am-12pm and 1-3pm in the Helensburgh office at 14 Colquhoun Square. If you would like help with the stage 2 application pop in and see us (we will have a cuppa and biscuits on hand too...)

The Hall is a great asset to Rhu and the suggested events are great ways to continue to keep up the community spirit in the village.

I think having local family focused activities is so important to foster a community spirit and family values, these activities are really mixed and could be suitable for all the generations 😀

It is great to see community events being organised for the village. This helps build community and friendships as well as helping keep the Hall going.

The activities at the hall are really inclusive and enjoyable for families and people in the community of all ages. Community halls are an essential part of the community and really help to improve health, wellbeing and social isolation.

Nothing builds a sense of community spirit more than holding family events in the heart of your village. A village hall should be run for and by its residents. Creating events like these suggested, are a way to reach out to all residents and giving them a place for everyone to feel welcome and involved.

Community centres are a vital part of village life bringing families together, good luck!

As a full time mum who doesnt drive i find the activities that the village hall hosts for families great as its local to me and the volunteers do a fantastic job. More events like these would be fantastic for the village and locals.

The playgroup on Wednesday mornings is brilliant - everyone is so friendly. I’ve also been impressed with the number of calendar events that seem to run here throughout the year, as well as the more regular ones.

The Rhu hall helps put a focus on community and provides a number of events to pull the community together. It would be fantastic to allow them to grow this facility to include as many people as possible and provide more activities.

These events sound great! The hall is a huge asset to our community and has been a lifeline for those of us with young children and many long rainy days to fill!
