Lochgilphead and Tarbert Army Cadets is a youth organisation which is part of Argyll (D) Company of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Battalion ACF. Argyll Company plan to take 40 young people on a Battlefield Tour in France and Belgium in October 2018. Before we can do that we must raise in the region of £20,000. 2018 marks 100 years since the guns fell silent at the end of WW1 and we would love to allow our young people to mark this event in this very special way.
The ACF is a youth organisation, we get funding for training equipment , resources and uniforms but rely on fundraising to take part in activities like this. We are not a recruiting step for the armed forces in any way, simply a youth organisation teaching the values of good citizenship, self confidence and assisting young people prepare for their future. This would be a truly once in a lifetime opportunity for our young people and such a special way to mark WW100. Many thanks in advance.
Every year the Army Cadets parade at the War Memorials in Lochgilphead and Tarbert to remember the brave men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. This trip will give the youngsters the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of these brave warriors as well as taking part in the Last Post Ceremony at the Men in Gate.
This would be a really good trip for cadets and adults to go on, this is a once in a lifetime trip to go on. My wee brother is a cadet and he is looking forward to going to see and learn about the history... Also would be a special touch with it being WW100!
A great opportunity for the young people.It brings home just how many gave thier lifes for us. My daughter went there on a school trip, she got so much out of it,

Would be great to see a research project similar to others in Argyll which have captured the stories of all those names on local war memorials?
I've been on this tour twice and I wouldn't turn down another opportunity. It's a fantastic experience and very educational. I have been in the ACF for almost 7 years now, it is a great group for young people to attend!
