The current Schedule V system involves the patient or very frequently their relative queuing for many hours at St. Luke's to apply/renew the permit; this usually involves a half day. With digitalisation the consultant would apply online without any need for the person to run around; when the permit expires, alerts could be sent to the consultant/gp for renewal; prescriptions could be valid for 6 months rather than every 2 months. Person present card at POYC to collect medications.
This should also cater for ad hoc prescription for non-Schedule V medication, thus benefitting the doctor (GP) of the patient to access all the medications given. Moreover it will also help pharmacists in logging medications bought from local pharmacies and ensures abuse of medicines.
